Moran Votes to Assist Unemployed Veterans Find Work
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran, a senior member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, voted today for House passage of legislation that will improve work training opportunities for unemployed veterans. Moran voted in favor of H.R. 1168, the Veterans Retraining Act.
"As Veterans Day approaches, we are reminded of how much we owe the men and women who served our country in uniform," Moran said. "This legislation provides important job training assistance for unemployed veterans at a time when the unemployment rate among veterans is a record eight percent. I am pleased to cast my vote in support of America's veterans."
The Veterans Retraining Act authorizes a living stipend and moving assistance to unemployed veterans enrolled in a Department of Labor re-training program. This stipend would help unemployed veterans pay their bills so they can continue training in job skills relevant to today's job market. The relocation financial assistance would assist newly-trained veterans relocate to geographic locations with a high demand for their acquired skills. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 990,000 veterans were out of work in September.
During his time in Congress, Moran has advocated to ensure that veterans across the country and throughout Kansas are provided the care and services they have earned. ### |
