Hutchinson Community College Receives ACT Award

Iowa City, IA - To celebrate 50 years of helping students achieve education and workforce success, ACT today honored a Kansas college that has made exceptional progress pursuing workforce readiness through education and training.

ACT presented the ACT Workforce Readiness Award to Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas, at the "Recognizing Exemplary Achievement in College and Career Readiness" ceremony today in Washington D.C. Randy Myers, dean of student services at Hutchinson Community College and Area Vocational School (HCC), accepted the award.

"This award confirms Hutchinson Community College's commitment that its students develop the necessary professional skill to enter today's workplace," said Congressman Jerry Moran. "HCC has impacted the lives of its students by providing them the tools for success and helps Kansan businesses meet the challenges of competing in a global economy. Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students."

"Hutchinson Community College has demonstrated its constant dedication to meeting the needs of students and employers while satisfying employer expectations about workforce skills," said Martin Scaglione, president and chief operating officer of ACT's Workforce Development Division.

For more than 16 years, Hutchinson Community College has participated in ACT's WorkKeys program. The college has two primary goals - to help area businesses find skilled workers and to select and train employees.

Hutchinson Community College students who receive qualifying WorkKeys scores can also earn a Kansas WorkReady Certificate and a National Career Readiness Certificate.

"Students understand that the WorkKeys assessments have meaning and impact on their ability to gain employment," said Myers. "They are providing employers with proof that they have the skills needed to do the jobs available."
